Renewal requires creativity. Creativity requires diversity and drive, diversity of people in their skills, behaviors and attitudes – in all aspects of life. The positive drive is established by dreams and the ambition to realize them. The negative drive happens when the safety net you have relied on just falls apart.

What opened my eyes towards the necessity of creativity was listening to Bill Fischer talk of the virtuoso teams and the real life cases and practices which led to their creation http://www.virtuos.com/virtuosolPPT.pdf .

Before this realization, I more or less believed that creativity is a present from God bestowed upon a select few people. Then, I started to realize that the attitudes, behaviors and skills needed to generate  creativity within teams can be learned and the teams can be led. You just have to put yourself in the position of diversity and drive.

Why should I care? Without creativity there is only efficiency; doing more efficiently the things you already know – personally and in the business, with no room for expansion or innovation.  Efficiency is important, but with only efficiency you are on the way to the commodity hell.
